چکیده
Scores on a test commonly used to assess concussions on the sport sideline vary by an athlete's gender and concussion history, reports a new study1 presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's (AOSSM) 2011 Annual Meeting in San Diego. The report emphasizes the importance of establishing an individual baseline for each youth athlete in contact and collision sports as critical to proper management of a subsequent concussion and the timing for safe return to play, researchers say.

متن کاملA normative study of the sport concussion assessment tool (SCAT2) in children and adolescents.
Recent clinical practice parameters encourage systematic use of concussion surveillance/management tools that evaluate participating athletes at baseline and after concussion. Office-based tools (Sports Concussion Assessment Tool; SCAT2) require accurate baseline assessment to maximize utility but no normative data exist for children on the SCAT2, limiting identification of "normal" or "impaire...

OBJECT Pediatric sports-related concussions are a growing public health concern. The factors that determine injury severity and time to recovery following these concussions are poorly understood. Previous studies suggest that initial symptom severity and diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are predictors of prolonged recovery (> 28 days) after pediatric sports-related c...
